Everyone has been talking about fall lately, but I have been trying to ignore it because it will still be a good two months before I can get into anything truly fall related. It may even be hot here in November. However, I guess subconsciously the fall talk got to me as I put together this earthy toned outfit. I actually had a light bulb moment when I was staring into my closet one evening and realized this cardigan and top would go together. Both pieces have been a part of my wardrobe for several years but I have never thought about wearing them together. Mustard was the obvious pairing for me. So glad I realized this version of green would work too.

Hope you've had a good week!

Coral and leopard

Blazer (old) option  option
shirt- Gap option  option
pants- JCPenney
necklace- gift option option
shoes- DSW  option option
Worn Jan. 7, 2015

This blazer is part of a matching pants suit. While very functional, I find it very boring. I've worn the suit with all sorts of colors and printed tops, but no matter what I find it boring. So I separated it and paired the jacket with different pants and a blouse I've never worn with it. Oh the benefits of remixing. Stretching the wardrobe a little farther. Leopard heels and my new necklace add a little more interest.

How are your New Year's goals and resolutions coming? I didn't really set any but so far I'm in a good rhythm of keeping up with the blogging and getting a few things done in the evenings. There was a time when all I could muster was dinner and the dishes after work, but a new year has given me a new energy.

Rust jacket/ gold accessories

This jacket hasn't seen much wear this year but is usually a "go to" for the fall/winter season. I realized when I put it on this time I usually always wear it with brown. At least I tried a lighter color this time. Next time I'll try black but I don't want to look to  Halloween-ish.

And speaking of gold: it's so "80s" to me and I went through a phase of not liking it, but I've embraced it again.

What "old" new trends did you reluctantly embrace?

Blazer- Dorothy Perkins option
sweater/pants- JCPenney
scarf- Target option
shoes- Payless

This out fit was inspired by one I found through pinterest. I immediately thought of these pieces even though the scarf and jacket are different. It still works and gives a pop of color to neutrals. I am combating the winter with bright colors.

Mustard please

Cardigan- Tilly's similar; blouse- thrifted;
pants- JCPenney similar

Worn Nov. 14, 2013

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent most of Saturday cooking. I now have 18 cups of pumpkin in the freezer, along with two complete meals, some browned hamburger meat, and pancakes for breakfast. I hope this saves me a little time later when the holiday rush gets busy.

I searched pinterest for some ideas on wearing brown. I've worn this blouse a couple of ways but was stumped on how to wear it with anything other than brown or black. This and this inspired me to pair it with mustard. I feel like I needed a necklace, but other than that, I was pretty please with this.

Teal and brown

Blazer- Belks (similar); blouse- JCPenney (option);
pants-thrifted
shoes- DSW
necklace- Statement boutique via Groopdealz (simiilar)(similar)(similar)
Worn Sept. 27, 2013

I've worn this necklace twice now, both times with teal. I'm certain it goes with other colors. It's funny how the mind works and what we are naturally drawn too first.

This outfit is one of my favorites. Three solid color pieces but they don't look plain. Each one has a little detailing and structure that gives it a little more polish. Ruched sleeves on the jacket, the pleat detail on the blouse, and the faux leather partial belt on the pants. I could not leave these pants in the thrift store when I saw them, even though I had to have them hemmed. Leopard shoes and a statement necklace takes it up another notch. Seriously, you will never look plain or boring with a statement necklace and leopard shoes.

More neutrals

Jacket- Dress Barn;
blouse/pants/shoes- JCPenney
necklace- Belk
Worn Aug 22, 2013

Back again with more neutrals. They just mix so well. All three of these pieces have been worn in multiple outfits, but I think this is the first time I've put them together. It's always fun to come up with new outfits from old standbys.

Green and brown

Cardigan- TJMaxx; blouse- Belk;
pants- JCPenney; shoes- Payless
worn July 12, 2013

I was getting bored with my brown pants and was thinking I had paired them with every possible top when I came across Lisa's green and brown outfit. The next day I put this together for work. It was raining when I took these photos so please excuse the horrible indoor lighting.

Happy Weekend!

Pink and brown

Jacket- thrifted; sweater- thrifted;
Pants- JCPenney; shoes- Payless
Worn: Feb. 15, 2012

Camel lends itself as a nice neutral for brights in the winter, especially hot pink. Brown is also another great neutral. I love pink and brown. I was excited to see camel paired with brights in the fall fashion magazines. I've paired it here with pink, and before with purple.
