Weekend sale picks

Doesn't it seem like there is always a sale? Usually there is, but there is an awesome sale at JCrew Factory this weekend, 50% off! Now is a great time to get a long crystal pendant. It's perfect with your work attire and I wear mine all the time.

I've rounded up my picks from the sales there, and from Loft, Ann Taylor (40% off tops code TOPS40) and Old Navy- the Harper pant is $25! I threw in a couple of markdowns from Zappos too.

Remember this tee from the post two days ago? The same day that I wore it with the skirt, I had a cook out to go to that afternoon. I paired the same top with floral shorts and sandals, and I was ready to go. I went with pink accessories for a little more fun and to balance the navy. And I'll admit I was skeptical of these shorts when I first bought them, but they have been worn lots this summer. I still have a few more ways in mind to wear them.

I finally had a day at work suitable for wearing a skirt. Of course I chose a pencil skirt. It's my go to choice for the office, but outside of work, I love a full midi or aline skirt. I had this top and skirt combination in my head last year and never got around to wearing it. This top has an open back that's not suitable for my office so I also threw a cropped black blazer over it. And who would have thought that you could find a stunning pair of statement earrings at Tuesday Morning? for around $6? I'll let you in on a little secret. I rarely never pay more than $10 for a pair of earrings. I love costume jewelry and the cheaper, the better. This ring is a DIY from a vintage clip on earring. I just cut the clip off and glued it  to a ring base from the craft store.

I have worn this blouse a couple of times with coordinating blazers but it's so cute, it needed a chance to shine on it's own. I paired it with cobalt pants for a church outfit. Minus a blazer, this wouldn't go over well at work but I loved it this way for church or for a lunch or party maybe. The back has a cute little tie detail that always gets covered by blazer.

Here are the last two ways I wore the top:

Raining on my parade

I try not to complain, especially not here, but life is raining on my parade right now. I'm not going into great detail but I'm beating myself up over something I feel like I could have done better last week. I know that the experience will ultimately be good and this is how we learn, but I'm having a frustrating and painful learning curve right now.

And it rained (literally) the first couple of days this week, but I didn't let it stop the outfit pics. I picked up my favorite butterfly umbrella that was a perfect backdrop to this butterfly top and went to work in the drizzle.  I threw this blazer in the mix of the capsule because I really needed to challenge myself to wear it in ways differently than I had been. I've always gone to brown with it, but I'm loving it with this top.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Coral, cobalt, mint, chevron and floral!!??? How much more goodness and how many more trends can you pack into one garment? I saw this blouse at TJMaxx a few weeks ago. It pretty much called my name from the rack, but I ignored it and left it there. I kept thinking about it and decided that it would mix with four or five other items in my closet so I went back and purchased it. It was then that I realized that in addition to all my favorite spring colors, this blouse had chevron and florals in the print. Score!

In celebration of spring, I wore this blouse with my coral blazer on Friday. For some reason the lighting is making my blazer look more of a salmon pink color, but trust me, it's coral. And this top is so cute. The top has a keyhole back with ties to tie a little bow at the neckline. I must wear it sometime without a blazer so it can be seen.

I'm glad that the calendar says it's spring. Our forecast promises to be in line with that today. Unfortunately, my day will be spent inside an office. There is hope for Saturday.

I wore this Wednesday because the temps took about a 20 degree dip. May as well get in one more wearing of some winter items. I doubt you will see the blazer, pants and shoes again until fall. The floral blouse is versatile enough to pull off in spring or fall so you may see it again.

Stripes and florals

Navy and burgundy, stripes and florals- both good mixes. I find it hard to dress for work in the winter time. I rely on scarves over blazers a lot. Most of my scarves are very neutral and are black or grey. I've decided to add a little color to my scarf collection and thought this floral print would make a nice addition.

So... are you ready for Christmas? We are in the middle of decorating. The outside is pretty much done. I just need to add a few touches to the porch. The inside of the house needs some attention next.

Happy Hump Day! So glad to see it. After the whirlwind of activity last weekend, I have been dragging this week.

This skirt is one of those items that I have held onto for a long time because I love it on the hanger but then not so much on me. I think I'm hanging onto it as a challenge to find the perfect way to style it. It had a matching top and I did let that go a couple of years ago. I'm over "matchy matchy" and tend to avoid that now days unless I'm wearing a business suit.

Do you have those items that you have a "love on the hanger" relationship with?
