Top 10 of 2013

In a few hours I'll be bowling with a group of 6-12 graders from our church youth group and that is about as wild as my New Year's Eve will get. I really couldn't think of a better way to spend it because I really love those kids.

As 2013 grows to a close, I thought it would be fun to count down the top 10 viewed posts of the year. Here goes, with the most viewed first counting to number 10.

Unlikely

Blouse- Loft similar similar; skirt- Limited similar
necklace/earrings- Sears
clutch - Forever 21
Worn Dec. 22, 2013

It's highly unlikely that I would have paired these pieces if I had not seen Stylish Petite do it. I love this combination.  And this was comfortable, so I may definitely wear this again.

Vested in dots

Top- JCrew factory similar; vest- old similar similar
jeans- Levis midrise skinny
shoes- Old Navy
necklace- Sears
earrings- Target
Worn Dec. 21, 2013

I'm struggling for a catchy post title so we'll just move on. I wore this to my Christmas gathering at the in-laws. I'm becoming more and more fond of my vests this season. I've had this one for years- quilted has come back around.

Not what I was going for

Cardigan- Old Navy; spend save
pants- JCPenney;
bracelets- gift similar
Worn Dec. 20, 2013

You can see the inspiration for this outfit here. There is technically nothing wrong with my version,  but it's not what I was going for. I'm okay with the colors together, but maybe I should have picked a different blouse/neckline and worn the cardigan completely unbuttoned. I knew my outfit would not be as "flowy" as the inspiration piece because the cuts are different, but it's just not what I wanted.

Do you ever have those days when an outfit is just not the look you want?

Put a bird on it

Blazer- old;
top- thrifted option option
pants- JCPenney
shoes- TJMaxx similar
Worn Dec. 18, 2013

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas full of blessings. We had a nice relaxing day and now it's back to work, with one more get together to go.

You can't tell very well from the photo, but the pattern on this top is birds. Birds make fun patterned tops and I couldn't resist this thrift store find. The top also has a cute button and portrait collar detail that will make it adorable without a jacket on warmer days. Oh and the shoes, another gift to me before Christmas while shopping.

Leopard and teal

Scarf- TJMaxx; similar similar
Jacket- thrifted similar
pants- JCPenney
Shoes- Mudd -old
Worn Dec. 16, 2013

Merry Christmas! I probably won't post tomorrow because I'll be busy tonight and tomorrow cooking lots of food, snuggling with my hubby and watching Christmas movies. I wish you all the comfort and joy our Saviour brings!

I found this post showing ways to wear a leopard scarf. So glad I did. It gives me one more way to wear my velvet blazer. Clearly I'm going for the second look.

Red cardigan

Sweater/skirt- Belks
shoes- Ann Klein via Belks
tank- Target

With Christmas on the brain, I'm still wearing a lot of red. I was inspired by this pin to put these pieces from my closet together. I usually think of this skirt as a summer skirt only but with a long sleeve cardigan, it works for our mild winters.

I don't have red shoes but almost came home with a pair of red patent peep toe pumps the other day. (They didn't fit).

Inspired by the scarf

Blazer- Belks; pants- JCPenney;
scarf- Target
shoes- JCPenney
Worn Dec. 13, 2013

I could have titled this post "How I Put Together An Outfit". The process went like this last Thursday night. "What's in my closet that I haven't worn in a while?" This scarf. " Is it cool enough for a scarf?" Yes, check. So this scarf has browns, creams, greys and black. What else has these colors? These pants and this blazer.

I would not have thought of putting these oatmeal color pants with a grey blazer, but the scarf has these colors so together they went, with a black top. Outfit done.

Pattern top

Jacket/pants- Limited similar
blouse- Target
necklace- Sears similar

Another gift to me- the patterned top. This was on clearance at Target, right next to a blazer I had been stalking for weeks. I hadn't planned on purchasing it, but upon further examination, I knew it could go with at least three different things in my closet. This is the most obvious- the navy suit. My blazer is hiding the cutest detail- faux leather shoulder trim, but I'll  have the chance to expose that soon.

Easy going

Blazer- Sears- similiar similar
shirt- TJMaxx
jeans- Old Navy similar
necklace- Chicos (thrifted) similar
purse- Nine West option
Worn Dec. 8, 2013

Just over a week ago these leaves were gorgeous! Now they are gone. How quickly nature changes and passes us by.

On another note, if you want to be casual and still polished, add a blazer. I like to dress up for church, but didn't feel like it last week. I wanted to wear jeans because I knew we were going straight to lunch and then to do a lot of shopping afterwards, but I added a blazer to feel a little more dresssed up. And I carried the red purse again.

Military vest

Vest- Kohls; similar; similar
blouse- JCPenney similar; similar
jeans- Levis midrise skinny
boots- Target similar
worn Dec. 7, 2013

A military vest with lace seems an unlikely combination, but in this anything goes world of fashion, it works. The lace keeps the vest and overall look feminine. While the rest of the country was freezing, we were having a heat wave, so yes, I really wore this last Saturday.

One for you, two for me

Blazer- Belk's (old)
top- Target
pants- JCPenney
belt- thrifted option; necklace old option option
purse- Nine West (Tuesday Morning) option option
Worn Dec. 6, 2013

Christmas shopping goes like this for me- one for you, one for me. One for you, oh, two for me. I can't seem to resist buying myself things if I see them and know they will not be around later if I put them on a wish list for someone else. Like this red purse at Tuesday Morning. It's already a close out item and they will not get any more of them. I have red on the brain because of Christmas so it came  home with me. And I have proudly carried this purse around for  a week now. It was only $30 so we're at $5 per day and the cost is dropping.

Neutral

Jacket/pants- Loft
sweater-thrifted
necklace- thrifted
Worn Dec. 4, 2013

It's my Loft suit again. I love having a good staple suit in my wardrobe. I also love when I see an outfit that gives me inspiration to pair pieces in my closet and I don't have to purchase a piece to complete the look. This was the case with this Limited look.

I didn't post yesterday. I took a day off to finish some Christmas stuff and made myself stay away from the computer so I would actually get the things done. I never made it back to post. But I'm please to say we are so much closer to being done with the Christmas "stuff". And don't get me wrong- I love CHRISTmas but I grow more and more weary of the traditions just because they are traditions and the rush and the extra work the "holiday" season creates. Christ was born in a manger- so simple. Why can't it be more like that now?

Black and ivory window pane

Sweater-(similar) and skirt- JCPenney
boots- shoes.com similar
necklace/earrings- gift (JCPenney)

I knew when I purchased this skirt in early fall that I could take into cooler weather. All it needed was a sweater and boots.

Are you ready for Christmas? Have you got all your shopping, wrapping, decorating, etc. done? We are about half way there.

Seeing red

Shirt- JCPenney similar
scarf- etsy
boots- shoes.com
worn Nov. 30, 2013

I've been drawn to red lately. Maybe because it's Christmas time. I started wearing red on Thanksgiving and I haven't stopped. This scarf was a gift to me and can be worn like a capelet over the shoulders. Love it! It's on of my favorite pieces.

Hope you have a great weekend.
