Top 10 of 2015

Where did another year go? I can't believe we are closing out 2015. I celebrated some ten year milestones this year- ten years on the current job (twenty total in the career) and a ten year wedding anniversary. It was also a difficult year. We launched a photography business that is still in the growing phase (don't judge our work by blog photos- these are all self portraits with a timer). I won't speak publicly of some of the other trials but I'm hopeful next year will be better.

So, what are your goals for next year? Do you have any fashion or blog related goals? I'm still considering a capsule wardrobe idea, or at least pairing down so I'll have a more organized closet. That really comes down to getting rid of stuff and only keeping what I love and what will fit in the space I have for a closet. Ever notice how all those pretty pictures of neatly organized closets don't really contain that many clothes, or like only 9 pairs of shoes? Um, yeah, okay. Let's be real.

I'll close out this year (and this rambling) with a count down of the top ten posts (by number of views). I don't really consider these my favorite outfits of the year, but they got the most views. Thanks for visiting, commenting, and sharing my posts on your blogs. I wouldn't do this if it were not for all of you sweet people. Happy New Year!

I mentioned yesterday that green was my holiday "go to" color last week. Here's the outfit I wore to work Christmas Eve eve. A little green tweed number that has a little metallic silver thread running through it. I thought this jacket was probably on it's way out because I've worn it with black and white before  ( here too)  and didn't think I had any more options for it. I get bored with limiting items. But then I saw this green and blue  print top and thought this would make an interesting print mixing outfit. Jacket saved!

It got cold for about half a day, so of course I rushed to wear the flannel, boots, and tights. I wore this to church the Sunday before Christmas. Green was my go to holiday color last week. I boycotted red. I have a love hate relationship with red. I digress. Back to the outfit- I really liked it even though I'm clashing the green/navy plaid with a black stripe. For some reason, my closet didn't seem to have the perfect shirt for this outfit, so I went with what I had. As much as I liked this, I was sweating by the time I got home. The cold front was short lived and it's been in the high 70s to 80s since. Yep, we're at day 9 of continuous hot weather in December.

Checkin' it twice

Makin' a list, checkin' it twice... oh wait, that was last week. Christmas is over. I hope you had a great one and all your wishes came true.

I couldn't help it with the title. These checkered pants are just so much fun. These were a "for me" purchase while Christmas shopping. I've been wanting to add some more work appropriate slim leg pants to my wardrobe but I have a hard time finding them to fit. Slim or straight leg usually means slim all the way from the waist down and that's not going to work for this curvy girl.  I sized up a couple of sizes with these and was pleased with the results. They were on sale, so they were mine.

I will try to photograph them better next time. I need to make some adjustments to the lens I've been using. I hope adjustments correct a focus problem with it. If not, I'll be looking for a new 50mm lens.

I've set up a new Pinterest account just for Savvy Southern Chic. I'd love it if you'd follow me. I'll be posting outfits there now. I've also taken the plunge into yet another time suck, I mean, social media outlet- Instagram. I'd love it if you followed me there too.

Saturday shopping - after Christmas sales

Did you get some loot to spend? After Christmas sales are a great time to spend it. Here are some of my picks from the best sales going on right now.

Ann Taylor has 60% off with code WINTER60. It's a great time to beef up your work wear or accessories.

I've got last year's version of the pave cabochon bracelet and get lots of compliments on it. It's a steal right now. A white tunic/ tuxedo shirt would make a great basic for layering and endless outfits. A long gold tassel necklace is one of my favorite accessories. I think this gold diamond jacquard pencil skirt could pull double duty for New Year's Eve.

Express has a 50% off sale going on now!

A sweater dress is a great piece to add to a winter wardrobe. It's a great time to snatch up a much loved portifino or the knit moto jacket. I could see that jacket paired with the sweater dress and a great pair of booties.

Banana Republic is offering 50% off on select items.

The faux fur sweater scarf and the bow tie tee just went into my cart! Now a good time to get a winter coat and this plaid one would be the perfect touch to any outfit.

I haven't even gotten to the Nordstrom half yearly sale. So much shopping, so little time!

Happy Shopping!

Pink, polka dots and pearls

Merry Christmas Eve eve! I'm all kinds of excited that today is my Friday for the week and I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that it's a short day (sometimes we get dismissed a few hours early) or at least that it goes by quickly. I'm looking forward to sleeping in, baking cookies, watching Christmas movies and seeing family over the next couple of days. I know lots of folks are taking blog breaks. I don't know if I'll post or not for the rest of the week, but if I'm not back I wish you the Merriest of Christmases!

Pink, polka dots and pearls- what could be more girly? Lace, tulle- well, it's all a matter of opinion. My girly outfits still have to say I mean business for the office, so here's my version. I think I'd like to have a chunky pearl necklace, but I made do with this super long strand of vintage faux pearls. It belonged to my aunt and was passed to me. She had excellent taste in clothes and jewelry and was a beautiful fiery red head. I believe we would have been the best of friends, but she passed away when I was five. The necklace is long enough to layer three times, so that's what I did.
